Frank Craig / Soda / York // Patent Safe Groove / 4 / Sole Makers / Dan Rylands Ld / Barnsley. Aerated Water Patent Applied top. Blue Lip. Traditional one way pour style codd patent. Hybrid. 13 oz. 240 mm. 1890s
Very Good. The left rear lip on the side (so not on the top of the lip at all) has a small section that has some crystal clear. An odd spot for a small repair I thought, so close examination ensued, which shows that there is an obvious airbubble in the glass under this, and some surface swirls around this where an airbubble has surfaced. This crystal clear has been applied to simply fill an open bubble on the lip, so it is from making, and not a chip at a later date. The filled part is only about 6 x 6 mm. This bottle has some surface haze and stain to it internally. The rear neck has quite a few scratches, there are also some scratches around the embossing to the rear. Similar at the front. There may have been some very light polishing down to the body, but not around the embossing. You can still see the ghosted York below the proper embossed York where the mould may have moved slightly. Mould whittle and orange peel effect around the point, seams are clear and visible throughout, in fact, I am not sure this has been polished at all, if it has, only in small spots where the whittle cannot be seen, which is mainly just the rear lower body - this may have been this way anyway as there is still some evidence of mould marks in this section as well. Around the lower part there are three or four tiny impact nicks, barely measurable these can just be felt. This is a stunning example, the lip mark is to not visible from the front and is nearly certainly from making anyway. Don't miss this opportunity to add one of those quintessential bottles that nearly every collector in Australia desires! Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $14000 - 16000
