Sold for A$400
1/9 / M. O'Neill / Elmore. No potters stamp. Demijohn Impressed Two tone, tan top. Impressed. 1 Gallon. 305 mm. 1900s
Very Good. There is a repaired chip to the front lip. It is hard to see the extent of it. It does not appear to have been in any way deep, maybe about 30-35 mm long and 10 mm down. Very good repair, this is not immediately obvious when the demijohn is sitting on the shelf. Pottery blowout to front, there is another to the right body and a small one near the lower handle. Couple of chips under the right base may be pottery pulls. There are scattered discoloured scuffs and scratches, mainly down the right side. There are some dints throughout from making. This is different to the example sold a couple of auctions ago, with the expensive price of 1/9 listed on it (in those days that was a lot of money). The previous listed one was the same size, but was 1/6. A rare country Victorian demijohn. Grade: 7 Estimate: $800 - 1000
