Hock bottle with applied seal: (Crown / E). This was the symbol for King Edward VII. No base mark. Wine Hock Applied top. Green. 13 oz. 273 mm. 1900s
Very Good. Front base has a flake, 6 x 6 mm. Some dust on inner base. Some spots of inner dirt that should soak out. Small impact mark to rear mid body, another to right rear neck. Some scratches. A bit of grime around the seal. The vendor informs us that this is an Australian wine? We cannot verify this, however a Trove search finds that, "As you perhaps know, I am the only maker of natural sparkling wines in quantity in the dominions of His Majesty King Edward VII. I hope that my sparkling wines will soon be as well known here, as in Australia, and am not afraid that they will suffer by comparison with the high-class vintages that come in from abroad." This was quoted directly from Hans Irvine himself when opening his Dowling Street, London branch in 1905. Irvine used a range of bottles in this period, including similar shaped bottles to this one, and so if the vendor is correct, this would likely be from Hans Irvine for use in the UK.
