J.A.M. Shelley / Trade (Shell) Mark / Broken Hill / N.S.W. / To close the tap / turn hole in handle to front / DO NOT raise the Tap on turning. Potters Stamp: Pearson & Co / Whittington / Moor / Chesterfield. Demijohn Printed Two tone, tan top with off white body. Black print. 1 gallon. 344 mm. 1900s
Excellent. Original wire handle is rusty. Couple of very small glaze flakes to upper lip. 8 x 3 mm flake to rear lower shoulder, a pool of glaze above this shows that it is a making mark. The larger upper hole in the spigot has some flaking to the upper half of the hole, and a short fine hairline in from this near the body of the demijohn. This is all quite minor. Some small discoloured spots. A bit of light glaze wear in places and some surface scratches to be found. A superb example of this very rare pictorial demijohn, a must for any serious demijohn collector. Grade: 8.7 Estimate: $2500 - 3000
