Cherry Tooth Paste / Prepared by / (Coat of Arms) / Dieu et mon droit / Chemists / Simpson & Davenport, Melbourne. Pot Lid Tooth Paste Domed pot lid, black print on blue background. 79 mm diameter. 1890s
Excellent. The face is near perfect. There is a tiny dint to the inner edge of the white at about 2 o'clock, this is a glazed over making mark. There is some very fine crazing scattered around. A few little scratches here and there as well. The bottom of the flange where it meets the base has a shallow flake over 14 x 4 mm. Around from this is a tiny 4 x 1 mm glaze flake on the bottom flange, then around a similar distance on the other side of the bigger flake is a side flange flake which is only 2 x 2 mm and just over glaze depth. There are a couple of dark discoloured spots on the side under the flared out rim, like a little surface scratch. Some remnants of a price tag on the underside have a slightly yellow appearance. A few other minor marks to be found, however, this is a premium example of a stunning looking lid. Grade: 8.7 Estimate: $1500 - 2000
