MASSIVE Chinese Storage Jar Chinese Chinese Huge storage jar with chocolate coloured glaze, metal band around rim. 3 or 4 gallon. 420 mm. 1860s
Very Good. This is one massive item, found on the Victorian goldfields 50 years ago. There are some flakes on the inner edge. A 35 x 15 mm flake to outer shoulder looks to be in making the way the glaze goes around on the same angle. A few other smaller flakes around the shoulder edge. About a 140 mm hairline from the shoulder down, around a bit further is another curving down over about 180 mm. Plenty of glaze pops and crude marks scattered around. Scratches to the glaze also scattered around. With the metal band around the rim, it is likely that this one had a wooden top, the finder tells us that there were remnants of oak lids in the vicinity. What an amazing and massive piece, a must for any Chinese collector. This is large and weighty, and so won't be able to be posted through Australia Post. If bidding from afar, a courier will need to be arranged. Grade: 7.3 Estimate: $150 - 200
