T Field / Potter / Sydney. Ginger Beer Impressed Dump shape, impressed, light grey glaze. 13 oz. 161 mm. 1840s
Very Good. Stunning bottle in this colour, coloured like the convicts of a similar era. Couple of very fine hairlines over the lip which are quite short. Some light wear and minor flakes around the shoulder, one looks like a small pottery blow out. Also a small spot of rust to shoulder. Black rust mark to surface at front up high on the body, this should soak off. Some light wear around the base edge. There are some chips around the base, shallow 8 x 10 mm flake chip to left of impressed stamp, 6 x 4 mm chip under the stamp, 10 x 5 mm flake chip to right of stamp with a small flake next to it, one more small flake to side body to rear, there are also some under base flakes and small chips. There is some fine spider leg type crazing and hairlines through the stamp and in the upper section near the shoulder, as well as a couple to the rear. These are likely from manufacture, varying from fine with a dark appearance as per the photographs, to fine and nearly impossible to detect. This is a great piece of pottery, one of the nicest Fields that we have handled! Grade: 7.2 Estimate: $250 - 300
