McLaughlin. Aerated Water Torpedo Applied top, square type chisel lip. Light Green. 13 oz. 215 mm. 1850s
Very Good. Appears to have been coated in a lacquer of types - this would have been to disguise haze. Some residue type haze and dirt internally to the rear. Small flake to bottom of lip on right side above seam line. Left side near the seam line has an impact mark, 4 x 5 mm, this is a small nibbled flake with a small bruise into the glass. 3 x 2 mm impact mark to top of the front slugplate. 4 x 4 mm fisheye near rear base. Has scuffs, scratches and fisheyes to the body throughout. Also has a slugplate to the rear, probably a label space. Has a sticky feel to it from the lacquer. This will need to be removed, possibly polished if so desired and the result will be a very nice, early torpedo. McLaughlin were listed in Melbourne for a short time in the early 1850s, only a few of these have been found, they are a very early, important piece of Melbourne history, this is one of the first embossed bottles used in Melbourne.
