Billson Bros / Trade (Crossed Axes) Mark / BB / Melbourne. Around heel: Melbourne Glass Bottle Co. / Y (at the point). Aerated Water Torpedo Applied top. Aqua. 13 oz. 238 mm. 1890s
Very Good. Hazy throughout. Burst bubble to rear body, 10 x 7 mm. Smaller open bubble near front base, 9 x 4 mm. There are a few other bubbles which seem to have formed on the surface, quite crude really, one is over the NE of Melbourne, one is across the handle of one of the axes. 5 x 2 mm horseshoe shaped flake to right side lower body across the seam over a bubble which also has a short surface fracture associated with it. Some scuffs and scratches, mostly shallow, one slightly deeper scuff on the right rear body. Just a couple of scratches to some of the letters, most of them are fine. Some inner dirt. The bottle has some finger shaped dints in the upper part at the start of Billson and at the start of Melbourne, it appears to have been handled when it was still warm causing some minor distortion in this area. A rare bottle, with a polish this would come up quite nicely. Comes with a home made wooden torpedo stand. Grade: 7.2 Estimate: $200 - 250
