Moonee / Valley Co / Melbourne / M.V.B.W // Tel 1899 / (Horseshoe around a Horse & Rider jumping a fence) / Trade Mark. Base: MV Aerated Water Codd Four way or Dobson type. Applied top. Aqua. 6 oz. 198 mm. 1890s-1900s
Very Good. Polished. Parts of this bottle have been quite etched and pitted and been polished to a respectable finish. Other parts have clearly been quite OK (such as the neck) and look like nice, whittled natural glass. There is a 10 x 3 mm shallow bruise on the inner lip. A small internal burst bubble where the applied top meets the neck. Signs of pitting and small fisheyes on the lower part of the bottle, particularly near the base. The glass is also quite rough from manufacture with something of an orange peel effect to the surface in places. Underneath the base is still stained. The trade mark is sensational with the Horse & rider almost literally jumping off the bottle! Great example of this very desirable Moonee Valley glassworks made variation. Grade: 7 Estimate: $300 - 400
