(Melbourne Lid, Horton Crundall was a chemist on Flinders Street). Pot lid Tooth Paste Square, blue with black print. Full gold border. Blue colour is applied overglaze. Lid No. 24, page 23 "Collecting Australian Pot Lids, Keil". 67 mm across. 1890s
Excellent. The gold leaf border is complete with minimal wear. The overglaze colour is quite strong on this one, they are often very faded. There is one small patch next to the word par where the colour has faded. There is one tiny nick to the outer edge at the bottom left hand corner. Some very fine crazing evident, underneath around the inner edge there is one heavier craze line. A couple of tiny nibbles on the bottom of the flange where the base meets the lid, these can only just be felt. There is a glazed over flake as well from manufacture. A few tiny spots of rust and some fine scratches to the face. One of the best examples we have seen of this particular lid. This comes with a matching base (embossed Maw) which has some nibbles, small flakes and crazing. Grading is on lid only. Grade: 8.6 Estimate: $900 - 1000
