(English Coat of Arms) / 1 / Doulton & Watts's / Patent Filter / London. Household Water Filter Waisted shape with applied bands of embossing and applied Coat of Arms. Tan bands to top and base. Tan handles, off white elsewhere. Stoneware. One Gallon. 294 mm. 1850s-1860s
Good. For such an early filter this one is in OK shape and certainly displays quite well but could use some restoration. There are chips around the top including a large 75 x 19 mm area to the back right top. Coming down from this is a crack to the handle. The tap hole has significant chipping and damage around it. There are other hairlines and cracks to the body, the glaze on many of these suggest a lot were there from the time of manufacture. A chip to the laid on decoration under the TE of Filter. Small chips around the base and the right handle has some chipping to it. Great looking decoration and glaze, nice early item. Grade: 6.1 Estimate: $60 - 100
