The Castle Salt / Table (Castle) Salt / Co-operative Co. Ltd. Smooth base. Household Salt Jar Applied lip. Aqua. Quart. 170 mm. 1890s-1900s
Good. Great looking jar, would grade much higher but has a couple of issues around the top. There is a chip at the front left that is reasonably deep and covers 14 x 8 mm. There is a shallow bruise on the inner lip behind this chip measuring roughly 10 x 4 mm. A large bruise can be found at the back left lip that is 28 x 8 x 5 mm that despite its size is reasonably well disguised and would be hidden even better if you had a lid for the jar. On the front right lip are a series of three shallow chips: 4 x 4 mm; 3 x 4 mm and 3 x 2 mm. There are also a couple of other pinprick type marks on the lip. The inner rim where the applied top joins the jar has a chip at the back. Body of the jar has some light scuffs and scratches and a bit of haze. Quite crudely made and there are some folds and swirls in the glass from manufacture. Nice pictorial Salt jar from South Australia and looks great on display. Grade: 6.6 Estimate: $100 - 150
