Gilchrist Bros / Trade (Horseshoe) Mark / Rockhampton // Patent Safe Groove / 4 / Sole Makers / Dan Rylands / Barnsley. Aerated Water Codd One way or Codd original type (with Rylands improved method of making). Applied top. Aqua. 10 oz. 245 mm. 1880s
Good. This bottle is quite solid but dull and stained all over with some scratches, scuffs and pit marks throughout. The top of the lip has a run of small flakes off the outer edge. Crudely applied lip has a slag of glass running around under the lip, some flaking in this area, possibly from making. Deep scuff mark to the rear half way down, 8 x 7 mm. There is a bubble at the front base that has a fracture around the outer edge of it, the bubble itself measures about 12 x 8 mm. Another bubble to the rear has a fisheye over it. There is a very shallow 4 x 3 mm burst bubble on the top of the R of Rockhampton. A few fisheyes here and there. Needs a bit of work but a good example of a rare Queensland marble bottle. Grade: 6.15 Estimate: $150 - 200
