Andrew . Taylor / Warracknabeal. Miscellaneous Demijohn Handled demijohn. Tan top, glazed white base. Gallon. 308 mm. 1900s-1910s
Good. Handle has a large 40 x 9 mm chip to the side of it and from this in a straight line across the top of the handle is a 33 mm crack (or in other words across the full width of the handle). Interesting kiln kiss to the side shoulder. Under the back base is a 70 x 22 mm chip that given the way it looks is likely to be where clay has pulled out when the demijohn was removed from the potters wheel. The glaze (mainly in the white area and mainly to the right hand side and front shoulder) is speckled in an odd way in that there are hundreds of little spots where the glaze has missed (glaze flakes). Under magnification the glaze is rounded on the edge of these and looks like this was the way the jar has come out of the kiln. Grade: 6.7 Estimate: $200 - 250
