Mason's / (MFJ monogram) / Patent / Nov. 30th / 1858. Base Mark: M. Household Preserving Jar Early screw top jar. Aqua. Quart. 181 mm. 1900s
Excellent. The lip has a shallow chip at the top of the left seam, 5 x 6 mm. There is another minor flake at the front lip. Some other flakes around the ground lip, that are standard for a jar of this type. There is a flake to the rear shoulder, 4 x 5 mm and again very shallow. Some lumps of glass adhered to the rear of the jar from manufacture. Some surface scratches and light scuff marks. Most unusual manufacturing mark at base, there is a fold of glass through the base which curls up around the front base area and around the back of the jar. Within this area there are hundreds, if not thousands of bubbles from absolutely tiny to some larger ones and all sizes in between. Some surface dirt on the base inside and outside. A wonderfully crude Australian made fruit jar with superb embossing. Grade: 8.1 Estimate: $40 - 50
