W. H. Dawbarn & Son / Patent // Melbourne / & / Sandridge. Dot to centre of base. Original brass cap imprinted Horner's / Patent // Davenport / & Co / London. Coloured spiral marble stopper. Aerated Water Patent Upright cylinder, blob applied top. Green-aqua. 10 oz. Alfred Felton owned the rights to Horner's patent in the Colony of Victoria. It would appear that these bottles are very early Melbourne Glass Works productions. Felton was a part owner of the Melbourne Glass Works and these bottles although not marked have a distinctive colour that suggests Melbourne production. 199 mm. 1870s-1880s
Excellent. Polished. Has been tumble cleaned but plenty of character remains on surface of glass. A few scratches are still evident on the surface. There is some slight wear, a couple of fisheyes and a tiny nibble (1 x 1 mm) around the base edge. A few of these bottles (complete and broken) have been found with these spiral marbles which seem to have been a marketing ploy to attract attention. The marbles however are quite fragile so it is nice to have a complete one. Early and rare Melbourne patent aerated water bottle. Compare to the later Lamont stoppered bottle (Lot 38) that uses the same embossing mould as this early patent. Grade: 8.4 Estimate: $1250 - 1500
