H.E.Reading / Bunbury. W.A. // Trade Mark / Rd // Trade Mark / Rd // Patent / Rylands Valve / 4 / Sole Makers / Dan Rylands Ld / Barnsley. Also a Silverplate torpedo stand with markings: A lamp / R&B, S, CP, Fleur De Lys / 3867 (markings are for Roberts & Belk, Sheffield c. 1863-1901). Aerated Water Patent "Hybrid" type marble stoppered bottle. Green-aqua. 13 oz. 247 mm. 1888-1897
Very Good. Polished. Typical of these there is a 21 mm long fracture in the front of the marble chamber. It runs at an angle through the glass and despite a little bit of milky stain in part of it is fairly difficult to pick up. Rest of the bottle has been heavily polished (seam lines are largely gone for instance). The embossing has been protected and it is in good order with some wear and roughness to the surface of the letters. There is a small 3 x 1 mm imperfection in the side lip and just a few scattered pit marks and tiny fish-eyes scattered on the surface. At this time these examples from Reading, Bunbury are the only known use of Valve Hybrids anywhere in the world and even they are very rare. The stand is in Very Good condition and a lovely item on its own. It has been cleaned and has some fine scratches over the surface and is now tarnished again. Quite an unusual design. Grade: 7 Estimate: $6000 - 7000
