Soda Water / V.E. Butler / (Pigeon's Head within circle) / Maffra. Base embossing: 850. Aerated Water Codd 6 oz. Deep aqua, Niagara Patent. 190 mm. 1913-1918
Very Good. At first glance this is near mint, however close inspection shows a few minor problems to cause us to downgrade to very good. The very tip of the lip at the front left side has the smallest of shallow flakes that may have been ever so slightly ground down? There is a good possibility that this bottle has had a light polish, it is a superb job, but close inspection shows several miniscule fleabites and fisheyes synonymous with a bottle that has had a tumble. There is a tiny ding on the right hand side near the chamber, very difficult to detect, a fisheye above the right hand tear drop, some minor impact marks to most of the letters, a shallow and small burst bubble to the rear chamber and a small impact mark to the rear base area. There is a line around the top where the applied top was originally joined to the rest of the bottle in manufacture after the marble was inserted, this is a manufacturing line. This English made version has larger and heavier embossing than the Melbourne made version of the same bottle and would be a great addition to any show collection of codd bottles. Grade: 7.9 Estimate: $300 - 400
