Cuming Smith & Co / Sickle (Sickle) Brand / Melbourne. No potters mark. (Victoria). Demijohn. Impressed. Salt Glaze. Impressed. Oblong Shape. 1 Gallon. 333 mm. 1910s
Good. (6.4). 14 x 5 mm chip to left lip, immediately next to a 10 x 4 mm chip. Couple of making marks around lip. Kiln kiss touches on the L of Melbourne. Right rear shoulder and down the rear body is a lengthy kiln mark consisting of a chip at the top, a long streak of added pottery and some flaking further down, this is all part of one lengthy kiln kiss from making. Left mid body has a mark over 35 x 25 mm which mostly is a flake, but the top part is a lump, this too is a large kiln kiss from making. 57 x 11 mm flaked chip to right base edge is highly likely a making mark too. 45 x 20 mm chip under the front right heel. Some minor flakes to base edge. A few scratches and minor marks. Crude demijohn and unusual in this shape.. Estimate: $30-50
