Liquor Ammon Fort / Felton Grimwade & Co / Chemical Works / Melbourne. No potters stamp. With original internal thread stopper. (Victoria) (late Ern Taylor Collection). Demijohn. Impressed. Handled stoneware Demijohn. Impressed at Shoulder. Salt Glaze. Internal Thread. 3 Gallon. 420 mm. 1890s - 1900s
Good. (6). Filled chip at the front lip of about 30 x 12 mm and an unfilled chip at the back right lip of around 15 x 10 mm. There is a crack all the way down the left side from the top join of the handle down to the base. This is a slightly open crack and the jar sounds "tinny" when you tap a fingernail next to it. Interestingly there are also potters tool lines either side of this crack so looks like there was a weakness there to begin with that has resulted in a crack later on. Demijohn has been painted at one time and you can see remains under the handle and in spots elsewhere. Stopper has some chips and nibbles on the thread and around the upper edge. Nice early looking one with a good stamp. (late Ern Taylor Collection). Estimate: $50-75
