Excellent (8.0). The vendor purchased this from a sale that was dispersing chemist shop contents from the Lawrie Abra pharmacy in Brisbane Street, Launceston. Many labelled items and a range of different containers like these including this camphora example. Abra was with Hatton & Laws for 18 months prior to serving an apprenticeship with Mr J. Lay, Chemist, Charles Street, Launceston, passing his pharmacy examination in 1889. He was also Grand Master of the local Freemason's for a while, a busy man. He took over one of the other prominent pharmacies in the early 1900s. This early item looks to be tin glaze, it could date as far back as the early 1800s, possibly having been used at this Launceston pharmacy for decades? Some dark marks to upper lip are mostly making lumps, one is a small flake type mark, about 5 x mm, and next to this is a clean looking flake just through the glaze. A few other little glaze flakes around the rim. One small hairline as well. Small flake to pedestal base edge. Some making marks to the body. A very interesting item. EST: $400 - 500.
